Continuity and the Counting Numbers

One is differentiable; the other depends
On things that you can see and set out in a line.
One measures change, the other intervals.
One lets you trace out what you’ve been or are
Or might yet become; the other is a row of tombstones
That you pass along the course of an existence
Broken into years, the units of a formula
In a single unknown waiting for you at the end.
